They are notoriously generous, not with their own money, but with the money of the Other. And when it comes to "income inequality", that is soundbite stuff only, mouth moralizing to appeal to their envious, entitled constituents, who are used to the Democrat dole and are easily convinced that they should have what "those people" have. And if they can't have it, then it should be taken away from those who do. After all, isn't that what politicians and tax codes are for?
